The Last of the eLessons

Welcome to the last of the e Lessons.  You have two weeks to complete the lessons, they do not need to be done all in one day.  If the snow disappears, before you complete the science activity, we will find another experiment for you to do.  I listed the science first today because it will take awhile for the observations.  While you wait, you can do the Reading and Math.

Science
A scientist does experiments to test out their theories.  You are going to be the scientist today.  Your task is to find out which melts faster, a jar of ice or a jar of snow.  You will need to make a prediction (What you think will happen.), observe the jars at evened time intervals until one is completely melted, (every 10 minutes, every 15 minutes, etc.), and record your observations.  You should draw a picture of what the two jars look like and given a brief description of what you see during the observations.  Make sure you include the time of your observations.  Once the ice or snow is completely melted, write a summary of your results and if you proved your theory to be correct or incorrect.  Also answer why you think the snow or the ice melted first.

Materials Needed:
2 clear jars or glass glasses
ice
snow
plain paper (chart your observations)
coloring pencils or crayons
pencil
something to label the jars
tray -  to set the jars on (optional)

Reading
Today you will being doing OAA Test Practice.  Choose the reading selection and pick two different reading selections.  Take your time and read the selections carefully.  Remember to go back in the text to find your answers. You will email the results to your teacher.

amartin@eaton.k12.oh.us
swike@eaton.k12.oh.us
tspurrier@eaton.k12.oh.us
mmahan@eaton.k12.oh.us
twilson@eaton.k12.oh.us
hbube@eaton.k12.oh.us

After you have taken the test, choose a book to listen to.  Next you will write a paragraph about the story.  Make sure you include the main idea and 4 supporting details.  You can also do this on a separate piece of paper.  If you choose to write it instead of type it, remember to turn in your work.  Find a quiet place and read for your enjoyment for the next 20 to 30 minutes.
Math
Warm up by practicing your facts for 10 minutes.  Continue to warm up your brain with Multiplication Grand Prix.  Now you are going to take two OAA Practice Test.  Make sure you click on math and read the test descriptions.  You want to pick something that is a review and not new material.  Use the email address for your teacher I have listed under the reading section.  Last, you will take a fact quiz.  Remember to print out your results to turn in with your other assignments.

I hope you have enjoyed these lessons.  Even though this is the last of our official e Lessons, I will continue posting various assignments and activities for you to do.  Some of these will be based around my classroom, but are open to anyone that would like to complete them.  My blog is open to my students and their friends.

Eday lessons

Attention ALL 3rd Grade Students at Bruce Elementary.  Most of you have figured out the links on the district website aren't working correctly.  Mrs. Wike has posted 2 days worth of lessons at Wike University that are more challenging for the average 3rd grader.  Those who would like a slower paced lesson, please scroll down.  Mrs. Wike and I will be monitoring these sites throughout the day.  If you have any questions, please email us.
Enjoy your lessons.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful break.  I have decided to try something new to help you at home.  I am learning how to use a blog and insert websites for you to visit and practice your skills.  Please be patient with me, this is my first attempt and I am sure there will be bugs to work out.
